GREEN
INITIATIVE:
Through our partnership with the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development, (HUD), the Monroe Housing Authority
is in the process of renovating many of our projects to promote
energy efficiency thus decreasing utility costs to the residents;
and, lowering operating costs.
MHA employees and residents are actively participating in a variety of recycling and conservation programs.

MISSION
STATEMENT:
The Monroe Housing Authority (MHA) is founded on the belief
that decent, safe, and affordable housing are central
to the physical and emotional health, the productivity, and
the self-esteem of the people it serves.
Recognizing its responsibility to maintain physical properties,
while affording dignity and respect to every individual, the
objective of the Monroe Housing Authority is to improve the
quality of life through a community partnership which promotes
decent and safe neighborhoods. |

OVERVIEW:
Established
in 1942, MHA has set a standard of excellence which makes it a
model housing agency by national standards. It has consistently
been awarded a "High Performer" award by the Department
of Housing and Urban Development from the implementation of the
award in 1992 until present day.
MHA owns and manages 1,522 residences for lower income family
housing which includes 230 residences for the elderly and 30 residences
for the developmentally disabled. In addition, MHA administers
Section 8 (Housing Voucher Choice) subsidy programs for another
1,495 families. The Monroe Housing Authority also manages a collection
of 620 non-profit and tax credit residences for
senior citizens.
